Tour Program
Expand AllKathmandu, the vibrant capital of Nepal, is a city steeped in political and cultural significance, renowned for its ancient monuments and stunning natural surroundings. Often described as a living museum, it unites the historic cities of Kathmandu, Patan, and Bhaktapur into one fascinating urban tapestry.
Upon your arrival at Kathmandu International Airport, our representative will warmly greet you and escort you to your hotel for check-in. In the evening, a detailed briefing about your program will be provided to help you prepare for the journey ahead.
After enjoying breakfast, you'll begin a full-day cultural exploration of three important spiritual sites in Kathmandu: Kopan Monastery, Boudhanath Stupa, and Swayambhunath Stupa.
Your first stop is Kopan Monastery, located on a tranquil hill near Boudhanath. This peaceful retreat, shaded by a large Bodhi Tree, offers insight into Tibetan Buddhism. Originally founded in 1971 as the Mount Everest Center with only 25 monks, it has since grown into a thriving monastery housing over 360 monks and nuns from across the Himalayan region. During your visit, a senior monk will introduce you to fundamental meditation practices and lead a guided session lasting about an hour and a half.
Next, you'll visit the sacred Boudhanath Stupa, a spiritual centerpiece for Tibetan Buddhists and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Towering at 36 meters, this giant mandala-shaped stupa is one of the largest in Nepal. The stupa is surrounded by prayer wheels and small statues, and you'll witness devotees walking in a clockwise direction, spinning the wheels and reciting mantras as part of their spiritual rituals.
The final destination of the day is the ancient Swayambhunath Stupa, affectionately known as the Monkey Temple due to the many monkeys that inhabit the area. Perched atop a hill in western Kathmandu, this stupa is one of the oldest and most revered religious sites in Nepal, believed to date back over 2,500 years. According to legend, the stupa emerged from a lotus flower that bloomed when the Kathmandu Valley was still a lake. With its iconic Buddha eyes gazing out in all directions, Swayambhunath offers not only deep spiritual symbolism but also panoramic views of the valley below.
