Begin your sightseeing tour by visiting Swayambhunath Stupa, a prominent Buddhist site perched atop a hill west of Kathmandu. After Swayambhunath, head to Kathmandu Durbar Square, located in the heart of the city. You can savor traditional Nepali cuisine or try international dishes.
Swayambhunath: Swayambhunath Stupa is also known as the Monkey Temple. It is one of the oldest and most significant religious sites in Nepal, attracting both Buddhist pilgrims and tourists. At the heart of Swayambhunath is a large white dome-shaped stupa with eyes painted on all four sides. The stupa is surrounded by numerous smaller shrines, temples, and monastic complexes. Swayambhunath is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Kathmandu Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the heart of Kathmandu. Kathmandu Durbar Square holds great historical, cultural, and architectural significance. On Day 3 of the Makalu Base Camp Trek, you will be flying from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar and then driving to Chichira. Begin your day by taking a domestic flight from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar. The flight usually takes around 45 minutes, offering scenic views of the mountains and landscapes. After landing in Tumlingtar, you will continue your journey by driving to Chichira. The drive from Tumlingtar to Chichira takes approximately 3-4 hours, depending on road conditions. Enjoy the picturesque landscapes, lush greenery, and rural villages along the way. Once you reach Chichira, a small village situated at an altitude of around 1,980 meters (6,496 feet), you can relax and settle into your accommodation for the night. After the long trek, you'll have the rest of the day to explore Kathmandu on your own.
