Wangdue Tshechu

The Wangdue Tshechu is another traditional Bhutanese festival celebrated in the Wangdue Phodrang district. Like other Tshechus in Bhutan, it is a lively and culturally significant event that combines religious ceremonies, masked dances, and cultural performances. During the Wangdue Tshechu, monks and laypeople come together to perform various religious rituals and dances. These festivities typically honour Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) and often include a dramatic reenactment of his subjugation of demons. The masked dances, known as "chams," are a central highlight of the festival and are believed to bring blessings and protect against evil spirits.
