Sindoor Jatra

It also known as SindurJatra or Sindoor Jatraa is a traditional festival celebrated in Nepal, particularly in the town of Thimi, located near Kathmandu. The festival typically falls in April, coinciding with the Nepali New Year or BisketJatra.

During SindoorJatra, participants engage in vibrant processions, music, dance, and rituals. One of the main highlights of the festival is the smearing of vermilion powder, known as Sindoor or Sindur, on each other's faces and bodies. This act symbolizes the spreading of happiness, good luck, and prosperity.

The festival has both religious and cultural significance. It is associated with various Hindu deities, including Bhairab, the fierce manifestation of Shiva, and the goddess Bhadrakali. Additionally, it is believed to mark the triumph of good over evil.

SindoorJatra is celebrated with great enthusiasm by locals and attracts tourists from around the world who are eager to witness the colorful festivities and experience Nepali culture firsthand
