Thimphu Drubchen

Thimphu Drubchen is a significant annual religious festival celebrated in Bhutan's capital city, Thimphu. This traditional Bhutanese festival holds deep cultural and religious importance. The term "Drubchen" can be roughly translated as "Great Accomplishment" or "Great Offering." Thimphu Drubchen typically occurs in the Bhutanese calendar month of September or October. It spans a week and serves as a precursor to the more widely known Thimphu Tshechu, one of Bhutan's most prominent and lively religious festivals. Throughout Thimphu Drubchen, monks and clergy engage in various religious rituals and ceremonies. The festival's highlight is the mask dance called "Cham," performed by monks adorned in elaborate and colourful costumes and masks. This festival is a vital cultural and spiritual event in Bhutan, attracting both locals and tourists who come to witness the traditional ceremonies and vibrant performances.
