Tamu Lhosar

Tamu Lhosar is a significant cultural and traditional festival celebrated by the Gurung community in Nepal. It marks the initiation of the Tamu Sambat, or Gurung Calendar Year, and is observed with great zeal and cultural enthusiasm. Tamu Lhosar essentially commemorates the Gurung New Year. The term "Tamu" denotes the Gurung people, and "Lhosar" signifies New Year. It is a period of renewal and new beginnings for the Gurung community. Tamu Lhosar falls on the 15th day of the Nepali month of Poush, typically corresponding to December or January in the Gregorian calendar. During Tamu Lhosar, Gurung families come together, spanning generations, to exchange affection, greetings, and best wishes for the New Year.
