Bhoto Jatra
Bhoto Jatra, also known as Rato Machhendranath Jatra, is a significant festival observed in Nepal, particularly in the historic city of Patan. This festival is associated with a legendary jewel-studded vest and culminates in the Bhoto Dekhaune Jatra, during which an ornamented Bhoto (vest) belonging to the deity Machhindranath is displayed before the public and dignitaries. The central theme of Bhoto Jatra revolves around the mythical Bhoto (vest) that was believed to be worn by Machhindranath, a highly revered deity in Nepal. According to legend, a farmer received this jewel-studded Bhoto from the Karkotaka Nag, a serpent deity, as a token of gratitude. The farmer had cured the eye ailment of the Nag's Queen, and as a token of appreciation, he received this valuable garment. The farmer proudly wore the Bhoto in the Kathmandu Valley, where it garnered considerable attention and became a symbol of great significance. Bhoto Jatra is an annual festival celebrated with enthusiasm and devotion by the local community and Machhindranath's devotees.
