Navadurga Jatra
Navadurga Jatra is a unique and indigenous festival originating from the Malla dynasty's rule in Nepal, particularly in Bhaktapur. This festival is characterized by a mask dance ceremony that portrays the various demonic forms of the goddess Parvati, known as the Nine Durgas. The festival was introduced during the Malla dynasty's reign in Nepal, and the Mallas were known for their devotion to Shakti, the feminine divine energy. They believed that worshipping Shakti deities would protect their nation, king, and people. Navadurga Jatra centers on the worship and representation of the Nine Durgas, distinct forms or manifestations of the goddess Parvati. Each form represents a specific aspect of divine power and is associated with a unique mask used in the ceremonial dance.
