Indrayani Jatra
Indrayani Jatra is a traditional festival celebrated by the Newar community in Nepal, particularly in the Kathmandu Valley, in honor of the goddess Indrayani, a manifestation of the goddess Durga. This festival is characterized by vibrant processions where the deity's idol is carried through the streets, accompanied by traditional music, dances, and community participation. Devotees flock to Indrayani temples to offer prayers and participate in special rituals conducted by priests. The Jatra also features traditional dances, masked performances, folk songs, and musical acts, creating a lively atmosphere. Feasting is an integral part of the celebration, bringing families and communities together to share special meals and fostering unity. In some areas, the chariot procession of the goddess's idol is a major highlight, drawing enthusiastic crowds. Celebrated in the month of Kartik (October-November) according to the lunar calendar, Indrayani Jatra blends deep religious significance with rich cultural festivities, attracting locals and tourists alike.
