Bunga Dyo Jatra

Bunga Dyo Jatra (Rato Machhindranath Jatra), also known as the Rato Machhindranath Chariot Festival, stands as one of the most significant religious and cultural events in Lalitpur, Nepal. This annual festival revolves around the procession of a colossal chariot bearing the deity Rato Macchindranath through the streets of Lalitpur, and it holds a special place in the hearts of the local community. Rato Macchindranath also referred to as Bunga Dya, Raktalokitesvara Karunamaya, or Red Machhindranath, is a deity associated with Lord Shiva. The name "Rato" signifies the red color of the deity's image. Rato Macchindranath is believed to be the bestower of rice, and his blessings are sought for agricultural prosperity and a fruitful harvest. The RatoMacchindranathJatra(Bunga Dyo Jatra)is particularly renowned for the magnificent procession of a massive chariot transporting the deity's image. The chariot is splendidly adorned with intricate woodwork and traditional motifs. It is pulled through the streets of Lalitpur by a multitude of devoted participants and devotees. This Jatra continues for one month.
