Welcomed by the trekking crew, you'll descend on a broad trail along the Pachhu River, passing through terraced rice fields and millet plantations. The landscape transforms into apple orchards, quaint farmsteads, and hamlets like Mitshi Zampa and Sangatan. Navigating the blue pine forest, you'll reach Gunitsawa at 2810m, the final checkpoint before the Tibetan border. Continuing along the picturesque path, the trail traces the course of the Paro River, weaving through dense pine, oak, and spruce forests. After a steady two-hour hike, navigating streams and embracing the natural terrain, you'll arrive at Shingkharap, a stone dwelling nestled at 3110m. Following a bridge crossing to the left side of the river, a hot lunch awaits. At a trail junction, opt for the right path, leading to a wooden bridge. Ascending through enchanting rhododendron forests and crossing the bridge again, the journey culminates at our campsite at 3750m, surrounded by the serenity of beautiful meadows.

While today's trek may not cover extensive distance, a significant elevation gain awaits as the trail ascends beyond the tree line. Departing from the camp, the path climbs until reaching an army camp, offering breathtaking vistas of the surrounding peaks above the tree line. The journey continues along the river, traversing a muddy trail and passing a Mani wall before entering yak territory. A hot lunch is served amid a yak herder's camp. Post-lunch, the trek proceeds through yak herder settlements like Soe and Takethang, surrounded by crops like barley, potatoes, and turnips. The final stretch crosses a plateau, ascends a stream bed, and reaches the enchanting campsite of Jangothang at 4040m. The panoramic views of Mount Jumolhari and Jichu Drake from this vantage point are truly spectacular.

Embarking on an acclimatization day, you'll embark on a four-hour hike to the north of your camp. Ascending an open, unmarked slope, the trek offers panoramic views of Mt Jichu Drake (6989m). For the adventurous, a scramble to 4895m, surpassing the height of Mount Blanc, unveils a breathtaking perspective of Mount Jumolhari. The area is a habitat for rare wildlife like blue sheep, Himalayan rhubarb, griffon vultures, golden eagles, and the elusive blue poppy. Jangothang base, nestled in a flat grassy expanse with a ruined fortress on a hillock, lies beneath the towering peaks of Mount Jumolhari and Jitchu Drake. With the altitude posing challenges, it's a recommended stop for acclimatization, offering both scenic hikes and the option to relax in camp.

The journey continues across a slope, leading to a second lake, followed by a descent into a concealed valley. The ascent becomes steep as you climb to Bonte La at 4890m, the trek's pinnacle, offering stunning vistas of Basingthang (5500m) and Chatarake (5570m). Post-pass, the trail descends, weaving through yak trails and crossing the Dhumzo Chhu. Following a downstream walk past quaint houses, you'll reach the camp at 3800 meters.
