We catch an early morning flight to Lukla, commencing our trek to Paiya after landing at the Tenzing-Hillary airport. The trail takes us through a jungle path, over the Handi Khola bridge, and into Surke Village. Continuing south, we cross the Chutok La pass and eventually arrive at the small settlement of Paiyan, also known as Chutok. This marks the initial phase of the trek, offering glimpses of the diverse landscapes and villages that characterize the journey ahead.

Descending for a stretch, we encounter a small bridge, and from there, the trail becomes slippery until we navigate the Kari La pass. Continuing the trek, we arrive at Panggom Village, where the local community relies on a combination of farming and trade for their livelihoods. The village setting offers insights into the unique way of life in this region, enhancing the cultural experience of the trek.

Our day starts with a post-breakfast trek. Departing from Panggom, we conquer the Panggom La pass, ascending steadily before turning north. Traversing the path, we cross Peseng Kharka Khola and then arrive at Peeng Kharka Danda. The journey involves crossing Ningsow Khola (stream) before reaching the Ningsow Village. The trek provides a mix of ascents, descents, and picturesque landscapes, offering a glimpse into the diverse terrain of the Khumbu region.

Continuing our trek from Ningsow, the trail leads us through a combination of ascents and descents. We climb initially, then descend for a while before ascending again to reach Ramailo Danda. The trail, known as the Pasang Lhamu trail, takes us to Chhatra Khola. Along the way, there's a chance to encounter the elusive Red Panda, adding a touch of wildlife exploration to the trek.

A brief stroll leads us to Thaknak, a summer grazing expanse adorned with basic lodges and shops. Comprehensive training encompasses the proper techniques for utilizing ropes in ascending and descending. Navigating a boulder-strewn path on a steep trail, we progress towards Mera Peak Base Camp. Continuing onward, we traverse the challenging Mera La pass en route to Mera High Camp. The rocky trail demands caution, especially after recent snowfall, as crevasses may pose hazards. Climbing to the summit involves overcoming a rock band, marked by a prominent cairn. Upon reaching the high camp, surrounded by stunning vistas of Mt. Everest, Makalu, Cho Oyu, the south face of Lhotse, Nuptse, Chamlang, and Baruntse, we prepare for the forthcoming ascent of Mera Peak, set against the backdrop of the majestic Himalayan panorama.

The summit day begins early, around 2 in the morning, as we prepare for the climb to Mera Peak. Although the initial hours are cold, the ascent warms us up as we navigate the glacier and climb a distinctive ridge. The sunrise bathes the towering peaks in a stunning red glow, creating a breathtaking spectacle. The climb remains non-technical, gradually ascending into the thinning air. After a steeper section behind the ridge, the summit reappears. Depending on conditions, we may use a fixed rope for the final steep summit cone. The summit reveals extraordinary views of Himalayan giants, including Mt. Everest, Cho-Oyu, Lhotse, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Nuptse, Chamlang, Baruntse, and more. After soaking in the panoramic vistas, we descend to the high camp for a rest before continuing to Kongma Dingma.

We ascend into the upper yak pastures of the remote valley, surrounded by the imposing presence of Chamlang to our left and the spire of Baruntse appearing beyond. Despite heading towards the heart of the world's highest mountain range, the terrain proves surprisingly gentle. The valley floor maintains its broad and straight course, gradually ascending toward the towering peaks ahead. It's a remarkable realization that the majestic mountains directly ahead are none other than Everest and Lhotse. As we continue, we reach Seto Pokhari, where we set up camp for the night, surrounded by the awe-inspiring Himalayan landscape.

As we proceed, we half-circle around the lake, eventually merging with the main trail leading to Island Peak. Upon reaching Lukla, the remainder of the day is dedicated to rest, marking the conclusion of our mountain adventure.
