Embarking on a scenic drive to the ruins of Drugyel Dzong is a journey into Bhutan's rich history. This site holds immense historical significance, as it was from these ramparts that the Bhutanese successfully defended against Tibetan invaders centuries ago. On clear days, the views extend to the majestic Mount Chhomolari, a sacred peak that soars to 24,000 feet, shrouded in myth and reverence.

After a delightful lunch, a visit to Ta Dzong, an ancient watchtower converted into the National Museum, is a cultural treasure trove. Inside, ancient Thangka paintings, textiles, weaponry, and various artefacts offer a glimpse into Bhutan's heritage. A leisurely walk to the traditional wooden bridge adds to the charm of this historical and cultural exploration.

Drive through from Paro to Thimphu. Thimphu is the capital city of Bhutan. Visit the Zangthopelri Lhakhang, the School of Thankha Painting, and the Tashi Nincha folk studio where the traditional folk and mask dances are taught and practised. In the afternoon, visit the Zelukha Nunnery, Tashi ChhoDzong, and Handicraft Emporium.

Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan, remains a place where modern amenities are still somewhat distant. It's often noted as the world's only capital without a computerized tariff and lighting system. Despite this, Thimphu offers a unique blend of tradition and culture.

In the morning, the journey begins with a visit to the Memorial Chorten, a stupa built in honour of the late King by the Royal Queen's Mother. You can also explore Changkha Lhakhang, the Motithang mini Zoo to catch a glimpse of the national animal, the Takin, and enjoy a drive to a viewpoint that unveils a magnificent panorama of Thimphu valley. A visit to the National Library showcases an impressive collection of traditional books, and at the Folk Heritage Museum, you can delve into the typical Bhutanese lifestyle and architecture.

In the afternoon, if time permits, a visit to Tashichodzong, the country's parliament house, the handmade paper factory, and local handicraft centres provides further insight into Bhutan's culture and artistry. During your leisure time in the evening, you can unwind and soak in the unique atmosphere of Thimphu. Overnight in Thimphu.
