Paro is the gateway to Bhutan and offers a picturesque introduction to the country with its stunning landscapes and serene atmosphere.
After completing the arrival formalities, you will be transferred to your hotel in Paro. Take this time to relax and unwind from your journey and get settled into your accommodation. Paro is a charming town located in a beautiful valley and is known for its rich history, culture, and natural beauty. You can explore the town in the evening, maybe take a stroll, and enjoy the local cuisine at one of the restaurants in the area.

The drive from Paro to Trashigang in Bhutan is a scenic and challenging journey, covering a considerable distance through diverse landscapes. Starting in Paro, home to Bhutan's only international airport, the road passes through Thimphu, the capital city. The route then winds through the lush valleys of central Bhutan, presenting panoramic views of mountains, rivers, and traditional villages.
As you continue eastward, the road traverses several high mountain passes, including Dochula Pass, offering stunning vistas of the Himalayas. The journey includes navigating through winding roads and steep ascents and descents.
The drive takes approximately 12-14 hours, depending on road conditions and weather. It's advisable to plan for rest stops and enjoy the journey through Bhutan's picturesque landscapes. Keep in mind that road conditions may vary, and it's essential to check for any travel restrictions or updates before embarking on the trip.

Today's journey takes you on a drive to Chaling, passing through the picturesque Radhi village. Upon arrival, your trekking crew and pack animals await, marking the commencement of your trek. The initial ascent leads to Shaktimi meadow, where yaks and sheep graze, and yak herder's huts adorn the hillsides. Continuing the climb, you'll reach Mendula Pass at 3354m. The descent from this pass guides you through enchanting rhododendron forests, descending to Donmang Chu at 3124m. Embrace the diverse landscapes, from meadows to dense forests, as you embark on this trek, surrounded by the beauty of Bhutan's natural wonders.
Overnight at Camping. [B/L/D]
Today's trek involves walking on a paved road from Domang Chu to Merak. The final stretch includes a gentle ascent before reaching Gangu village. After another 45 minutes of walking from Gangu village, you will arrive at Merak, situated at an altitude of 3520m. The campsite before the village provides spectacular views of nearby mountains and the village itself. Take the opportunity to explore the local village and meet its residents. Alternatively, there is the option to ride a vehicle to Merak, which would take approximately 2 hours. This flexibility allows you to choose the mode of transportation that best suits your preferences and energy levels.

Today's trek presents a formidable challenge as you ascend to the highest point, Nachungla Pass at 4153m. Departing from the campsite, the ascent is gradual, allowing for acclimatization. The initial climb takes you to the first pass at 3900m, serving as a strategic vantage point for the final push to Nachungla. The terrain varies, offering a mix of lush landscapes and rocky paths. Take measured breaks to appreciate the breathtaking surroundings and ensure hydration. As you approach Nachungla, anticipate steeper climbs and challenging terrain. Safety is paramount, so maintain a steady pace and savour the rewarding views from the summit.

Embarking on your journey, the first leg involves a descent to the river, crossing its flowing waters before tracing the river bank for a few hours. As you follow the meandering course, a gradual climb ensues, leading you to a hill adorned by a small Chorten (Stupa) that offers a commanding view of the picturesque Sakteng valley. Keep a keen eye out, as luck may grace you with the rare sight of a red panda nestled among the trees in this pristine environment. Descending from the ridge, your day concludes with setting up camp on the outskirts of Sakteng village, resting at an elevation of 2950m. Embrace the serene surroundings and anticipate the cultural richness of this Himalayan haven.

Today take the opportunity to immerse yourself in the vibrant tapestry of Sakteng village. Wander through its narrow lanes and engage with the locals to gain insights into the unique lifestyle and culture of this ethnic group. Absorb the distinct traditions, customs, and practices that shape the daily lives of the community. Discover the craftsmanship, and folklore, and perhaps partake in local festivities, gaining a deeper appreciation for the rich heritage that defines Sakteng. This cultural exploration adds a layer of authenticity to your journey, allowing you to connect with the people and traditions that make Sakteng a remarkable destination on your trekking adventure.

Today's expedition promises an extended adventure, prompting an early start from the campsite in Sakten. Begin with a brief ascent to a small hill on the western edge of the village, setting the stage for the day's journey. Descend gracefully towards the river, tracing its course while strolling through the expansive broadleaf forests that paint the landscape.
The day's destination is a picturesque meadow adjacent to the river, near Joenkhar Teng village, resting at an elevation of 1733m. This charming village, nestled on the hillside, is home to a community characterized by the Brokpa and Sharchopa ethnic groups. Discover the local way of life, visit the community school, and explore the outreach clinic, gaining insights into the daily routines and unique cultural aspects that define Joenkhar Teng. The beauty of the natural surroundings and the warmth of the local community create a memorable experience on this leg of your journey.
Overnight at Camping. [B/L/D]
Embarking on the final day of your trek, commence with a brief ascent through Joenkhar Teng. Traverse suspension bridges add an adventurous touch to your journey and shortly ascend to Phongmay village. Here, your transport awaits, signalling the end of the trekking portion.
Board your vehicle and drive towards Trashigang, enjoying the changing landscapes along the way. During the journey, make a noteworthy stop at Rangjung. Take the opportunity to visit the Rangjung Monastery, founded by the esteemed His Eminence Garab Rinpoche. Delve into the spiritual and cultural richness of the monastery, appreciating the architecture and absorbing the serene ambience before continuing your drive to Trashigang. This final day offers a blend of adventure, cultural exploration, and spiritual discovery as you conclude your trekking odyssey.

Upon reaching Paro, explore its cultural treasures, from the iconic Paro Taktsang monastery to vibrant markets. The last day morning will be free and near the time of your flight. You will be at the airport within the time to board your flight for the onward trip.
