Everest North Face Base Camp is a vital staging point for climbers embarking on the daunting journey to conquer the world's highest peak, Mount Everest. Situated in Tibet, on the northern side of the mountain, it offers a unique perspective on this iconic summit. Nestled at an altitude of approximately 5,200 meters (17,060 feet), the base camp provides a stark contrast to the bustling South Base Camp in Nepal. It's a remote and rugged outpost where climbers acclimatize and prepare for the challenging ascent. The surroundings are characterized by barren, rocky terrain, with awe-inspiring views of Everest's formidable North Face, a sight that both inspires and daunts those who dare to dream of reaching its summit. The North Face Base Camp serves as a testament to human perseverance in the face of extreme conditions and continues to be a beacon for mountaineers seeking to conquer the ultimate peak.

Upon your arrival in Tibet, your guide will extend a warm welcome to you at either Lhasa Gonggar Airport or Lhasa Railway Station, signifying the commencement of your journey. The drive from Lhasa Airport to downtown Lhasa usually takes around 1.5 hours, while the journey from Lhasa Railway Station is a shorter 20-minute ride. During this transfer, you'll have the opportunity to catch glimpses of the Yarlung Tsangpo River, which happens to be Tibet's largest and longest river.

After settling into your hotel, it's recommended to take some time to rest and acclimate to the high altitude. If you feel like exploring the city, do so with caution. Ensure you stay well-hydrated, avoid strenuous activities, and take it easy to comfortably adjust to the elevated terrain.

On the second day, your exploration of Lhasa kicks off in the morning when your guide will meet you at the hotel. Your first stop is the iconic Potala Palace, a symbol of Tibet and a masterpiece of Tibetan architecture. Initially built by King Songtsen Gangpo in the 7th century and later restored by the 5th Dalai Lama in the 17th century, it now serves as a museum and a UNESCO World Heritage site.

In the afternoon, you'll visit the revered Jokhang Temple, situated at the heart of Lhasa's old town. This temple has been a place of devotion for local pilgrims for centuries. Following your temple visit, you'll take a stroll through Barkhor Street, an ancient circular route encircling Jokhang Temple. This bustling central market is a key site in Lhasa and a must-visit, known for its religious significance and vibrant local atmosphere.

On the third day, your morning expedition takes you to Norbulingka, a park celebrated as the finest of its kind in Tibetan settings. In the summer and autumn, this park, along with others in Tibet, becomes a hub of merriment with dances, songs, music, and celebrations. Norbulingka is particularly famous for hosting the annual Sho Dun or 'Yoghurt Festival,' a lively cultural event.

In the afternoon, your journey will lead you to Drepung Monastery, which translates to "Monastery of Rice Heap" in Tibetan. The sprawling monastery covers the hillsides, with its white structures resembling vast rice heaps from a distance, which gave it its name. Drepung is not only the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery but also holds the highest status within the Gelug Sect. Its impressive scale and rich history make it a significant destination on your itinerary.

Overnight in Hotel [B/-/D]

On the fourth day, while en route to Namtso, you'll be treated to breathtaking vistas of the Nyenchen Thanglha Snow Mountain from a distance. As you traverse the expansive grasslands, the natural beauty of the surroundings will captivate your senses. Your journey will lead you to Namtso Lake after crossing Nagela Pass, standing at an impressive altitude of 5150 meters. Prepare to be mesmerized by the pristine landscapes and the serene beauty of Namtso Lake.

Overnight in Hotel [B/-/D]

The fifth day's journey from Lhasa to Gyantse covers a distance of approximately 264 kilometres. Along the route, you'll come across the Gambala Mountain Pass at an elevation of 4990 meters, offering a spectacular vantage point to admire the beauty of Yamdroktso Lake. Continuing your voyage, you'll travel through the fertile Nyangchu Valley, a vast agricultural plain adorned with vibrantly decorated yaks and horses, which Tibetan farmers employ for cultivating this land. The scenic drive to Shigatse takes you through this picturesque terrain, providing you with glimpses of Tibet's agricultural traditions and natural splendour.

Stay overnight in Shigatse [B/-/D]

Tibet strictly enforces speed limits, which can significantly impact travel times. The journey from Shigatse to the Everest region covers only about 350 kilometres but is subject to a maximum speed of 40 km/hr, with numerous checkpoints along the route, extending the travel time to around 8 to 10 hours, including meal breaks. However, the upside is that the scenic vistas along the way are truly magnificent. It's advisable to carry some snacks for the extended drive.

During the summer months, typically from May to October, accommodations are provided at Everest Tent Camp, while in the winter, from November to April, you'll stay at Rongbuk Monastery's guesthouse. Both locations offer dorm beds, and, weather permitting, you can witness the splendid sunset over Mount Everest, making your stay a memorable experience.

Overnight in EBC [B/-/D]

On the seventh day, early risers can savour the mesmerizing sunrise over Everest Peak from the lodging area, provided the weather cooperates. Following this splendid sightseeing, the journey continues towards Gyirong, the border linking Tibet and Nepal. En route, travelers are treated to the awe-inspiring panoramas of Mount Shishapangma and the picturesque Pekutso Lake. As you cross the Ghungtang Lhamo, situated at a high altitude of 5236 meters, you'll arrive in Gyirong in the late afternoon, marking the final leg of your remarkable journey through these breathtaking landscapes.

Stay overnight at Gyirong Town [B/-/D]

On the eighth day, in the early morning, your journey takes you to Gyirong Port. Here, you will be required to walk independently across the border bridge, a short span of about 50 meters. On the Nepalese side of the border, your Nepali driver will be waiting to receive you and will then transport you to Kathmandu. Despite the relatively short distance of just over 160 kilometres between Gyirong Port and Kathmandu, the challenging mountain road conditions necessitate a travel time of approximately 6 to 7 hours to reach your final destination in Kathmandu.

Stay overnight in Kathmandu [B/-/-]

Today we will be sightseeing at Boudhanath Stupa and Pashupatinath Temple.

Boudhanath, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Kathmandu, Nepal, is one of the largest stupas in the world and a significant pilgrimage site for Buddhists. Its massive mandala design and iconic white dome adorned with colourful prayer flags create a mesmerizing sight. The stupa is surrounded by numerous monasteries and shops selling Tibetan artefacts, adding to its cultural richness. Pilgrims and tourists alike circumambulate the stupa, spinning prayer wheels and chanting mantras. Boudhanath symbolizes the harmony of diverse Buddhist traditions and serves as a spiritual hub for meditation and contemplation. Its historical and religious importance makes it a captivating destination for those seeking tranquillity and cultural immersion.

Pashupatinath, located in Kathmandu, Nepal, is a sacred Hindu temple complex and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it is one of the holiest pilgrimage sites for Hindus. The temple's architecture showcases intricate woodcarvings and pagoda-style structures. Along the Bagmati River, pilgrims perform cremation rituals on the ghats, symbolizing the cycle of life and death. The site holds spiritual significance and hosts festivals like Maha Shivaratri, attracting devotees from around the world. Pashupatinath's serene ambience, ancient architecture, and cultural rituals make it a profound centre for Hindu spirituality, preserving centuries of religious heritage.
