Driving to Himalaya Overland Adventure from Kathmandu to Lhasa 7 Night 8 Days
Embarking on an overland journey from Kathmandu to Lhasa is an unparalleled adventure, brimming with excitement and thrill. This extended 8-day expedition traverses through some of the most magnificent terrain, including the towering peaks of the Great Himalayas, pristine alpine lakes, glaciers, and sacred Buddhist sites, and ultimately brings you to Lhasa, the spiritual nucleus of Tibet.
We thoughtfully extended the original 7-day overland tour to the current 8-day itinerary to enhance your safety and overall experience. This extension allows you to spend a day in Gyirong Town (2700m), significantly reducing the risk of acute mountain sickness when transitioning from the lower altitude of Kathmandu (1400m) to the higher elevation of old Tingri (4300m). This adjustment also ensures that your journey begins in the late morning, eliminating the need for drivers to navigate the challenging mountain roads near the Sino-Nepal border during nighttime. This, in turn, contributes to a safer and more enjoyable travel experience for all.
