Chinese Visas issued in the passport by other Chinese embassies are not valid for entry to Tibet from Nepal. The Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu must issue the Chinese Visa for Tibet, which will be on a piece of paper, commonly known as a Group Visa. The Group Visa can be issued for one person or above and will be valid for the duration of the tour only.
The process of issuing a Chinese Visa for Tibet entry: Once you confirm your Tibet trip, you need to send us your passport copy with your profession and we will then forward that to our Tibet. Our office in Lhasa processes the permits of the groups about 3 weeks prior to your arrival in Lhasa and sends them to us in Kathmandu. On your arrival in Kathmandu, we will collect your original passport along with 1 copy of the pp size photograph and the applicable Tibet visa fee and you need to fill up the Tibet visa application form. We then apply to the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu for Tibet visa along with you’re Tibet Visa Approval copy received from our Lhasa office.
Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu opens 5 days a week from Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Normally Tibet visa procedures takes 4 working days i.e. if we apply for visa on Monday, we get visa on Thursday only. However Tibet visa also can be issued in 3 working days i.e. if we apply on Monday, we can get visa on Wednesday on payment or urgent fee.
The requirements are as follows.
The client’s passport must be valid for a minimum of six months from the date of entry into Tibet.
One passport size photo (color).
Original passport at the time of applying for the Chinese Visa.
VISA PROCEDURE when entering Tibet via Mainland China only
If you are entering Tibet from Mainland China, (i.e. via Chengdu, Beijing and then to Lhasa) then you should obtain a normal Chinese visa [L/T class] from your home country. With a Chinese visa you can enter China without any problems. We will process all your permits for Tibet and send a copy of Tibet Entry Permit to you for your flight to Lhasa.
