Upon your arrival at Paro Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our representative from Journey DMC who will assist you with the necessary arrival formalities. Paro is the gateway to Bhutan and offers a picturesque introduction to the country with its stunning landscapes and serene atmosphere.

After completing the arrival formalities, you will be transferred to your hotel in Paro. Take this time to relax and unwind from your journey and get settled into your accommodation. Paro is a charming town located in a beautiful valley and is known for its rich history, culture, and natural beauty. You can explore the town in the evening, maybe take a stroll, and enjoy the local cuisine at one of the restaurants in the area.

Commencing the day with an early breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Ramthangka, the base camp of Taktsang. The journey continues with a captivating hike to the renowned Taktsang Monastery, also known as the Tiger’s Nest. Perched 3,000 meters above the valley floor on a vertical granite cliff, this sacred site holds a magical allure. Legend has it that Guru Padmasambhava meditated here in the 8th century, arriving on a tigress to subdue malevolent spirits hindering Buddhism's spread. Initially built by Guru's disciples, Zhabdrung later expanded the temple in the 17th century.

Post-lunch, the return journey leads back down, followed by a northward drive to explore the ruins of Drukgyel Dzong, constructed in 1646 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel. This vantage point offers a majestic view of Mt. Jomolhari, the mountain of goddesses, completing a day rich in cultural and natural exploration.

Embarking on the trek, the journey commences with a drive to Drukgyel Dzong, where the motorable road concludes. The trek to Shana unfolds with a 5 to 6-hour walk featuring a gradual climb along the Paro River. Traversing agricultural valleys and charming villages, the path leads to a campsite opposite the army check post in the meadows, nestled near the river at an altitude of 2,580m. This initial leg offers a glimpse into Bhutan's rural landscapes, with the Paro River accompanying the trek, setting the tone for the adventure that lies ahead. The serene campsite becomes a tranquil overnight stop, promising a serene start to the trekking expedition.

Continuing the trek, the trail unfolds with a gradual ascent alongside the Paro River, meandering through coniferous forests and vibrant rhododendron blooms. The path gradually narrows, weaving its way up and down along the drainage. As the journey progresses, the surroundings become more intimate, enveloped by nature's embrace.

The day concludes at a picturesque campsite nestled in a meadow, adorned with stone shelters designed for trekkers. Surrounded by coniferous and birch forests, the camp provides a serene retreat. On clear days, the magnificent presence of Mt. Jomolhari becomes a captivating spectacle, as if the mountain itself is peeking through the clouds, offering a breathtaking backdrop to the trekking adventure.

Continuing the trek, the path progresses past the army post, and the valley expands, revealing the winter dwellings of yak herders. A delightful interlude awaits as a hot lunch is served amidst this rustic landscape.

The campsite for the day is nestled beneath the towering presence of Mt. Jomolhari, with the accommodation set against the backdrop of ruined trees. This serene spot at the base of the mountain provides a tranquil setting for the night, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Himalayan landscape. It's a moment to savour the connection with nature and the awe-inspiring presence of the majestic peaks.

Jangothang offers a day filled with possibilities for exploration and acclimatization. Numerous day hikes present themselves, revealing breathtaking views of lakes and snow-capped giants like Jomolhari and Jitchu Drake. The pristine upper slopes of the valley often grant sightings of the elusive blue sheep. This idyllic environment serves as a perfect acclimatization haven.

Whether trekking up to Tosoh or exploring the surrounding area, there are excellent short hiking trails in three directions. To the west, the grandeur of Jomolhari and its subsidiary peaks unfolds; to the north, Jitchu Drake stands tall, while unexplored peaks beckon to the east. Jangothang becomes a gateway to the beauty and mysteries of the Himalayan landscape.

Post-breakfast, the ascent begins, guiding you up the mountainside toward Nyelila Pass at 4,700m. Throughout the climb, the majestic presence of Mt. Jomolhari, Mt. Jitchu Drake, and Tsherim Gang accompanies you until Nyelila. As you reach this pass, a transition occurs, bidding farewell to the first two mountains while Tsherim Gang remains visible.

From the Nyelila Pass, the trail descends, leading you down to the camp at Lingshi. The journey showcases the dynamic beauty of the Himalayan landscape, offering a diverse panorama of mountains and valleys as you make your way through this captivating terrain.

The trail winds through a deep valley, gradually ascending to the majestic Yeli-la Pass at an elevation of 4,820m. From this vantage point, on clear days, the panoramic view unfolds, revealing the towering peaks of Mt. Jomolhari, Mt. Tsherim Gang, and the impressive Mt. Masagang standing at 6,994m. The pristine beauty of the Himalayan landscape, with its rugged terrain and snow-capped summits, creates a mesmerizing backdrop for trekkers making their way through this high-altitude pass. This part of the trek offers not only physical challenges but also the reward of breathtaking vistas that showcase the grandeur of the Bhutanese mountainscape.

The trail meanders with gentle undulations, tracing the course of the Thimphu Chhu. Gradually ascending, it leads to the campsite at Barshong, where you'll spend the night. The journey unfolds along the riverside, offering serene views and a peaceful ambience as you traverse the landscape. The gradual climb and descent provide a balanced trekking experience, allowing trekkers to appreciate the natural beauty of Bhutan's terrain while making their way to the campsite nestled in the picturesque surroundings of Barshong.

Descending through the Thimphu Chhu River valley, the trail winds its way through dense forests adorned with rhododendron, birch, conifer, maples, and bamboo. The lush vegetation provides a vibrant backdrop to the trek as you immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the surroundings. As the trail continues, it ascends to pasture lands, and the campsite at Dolom Kencho awaits in a peaceful meadow. This transition from dense forests to open meadows offers a diverse and enchanting trekking experience, allowing trekkers to witness the varied landscapes that define Bhutan's pristine wilderness.

Continuing through forested landscapes with undulating terrain, the trail meanders up and down, traversing a small pass. Along the way, one may encounter langurs (monkeys), adding a lively aspect to the trek. Exiting the Jigme Dorji National Park, the journey concludes at the road head adjacent to an impressive cantilever bridge.

Marking the end of the trek, the trekking staff will be awaiting your arrival at this point. They will facilitate your transportation back to Thimphu, providing a comfortable conclusion to the trekking adventure. In the evening, take a stroll around the town, absorbing the local atmosphere, before returning to the hotel to reflect on the memorable experiences of the trek.

The drive from Thimphu to Paro in Bhutan is approximately 55 kilometres and usually takes around 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on road conditions. The journey offers stunning views of Bhutan's landscapes and is known for its scenic beauty.

Starting from Thimphu, the capital city, you'll likely head westward on the winding mountain roads. The route takes you through picturesque valleys, traditional villages, and lush greenery. Along the way, you might catch sight of the Paro River and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.

The road conditions are generally good, but weather conditions can affect travel times, especially during monsoon or winter seasons. Always check for the latest information on road conditions and weather before embarking on the journey.

The last day morning will be free and near the time of your flight. You will be at the airport within the time to board your flight for the onward trip.
