Sithi Nakha
It is also known as Sithi Nakha Jatra or Sithi Nakha, a traditional festival celebrated by the Newar community in Nepal. It typically falls in Jestha (May/June), according to the Nepali lunar calendar.
Sithi Nakha is primarily a festival that honors nature, particularly water and is observed with various rituals and festivities. One of the central rituals involves cleaning and worshipping water sources such as wells, ponds, and rivers. People gather at these water bodies early in the morning to perform rituals, offer prayers, and make offerings to the deities associated with water, seeking blessings for prosperity and well-being.
The festival also involves cultural activities such as singing traditional songs, dancing, and feasting. It is a time for families and communities to unite, strengthen bonds, and celebrate their cultural heritage.
Sithi Nakha holds significance not only as a religious festival but also as a time to acknowledge the importance of water in agriculture and daily life, especially in a country like Nepal with its rich tradition of rural culture and dependence on monsoon rains for farming.
