Janai Purnima
Janai Purnima also recognized as Raksha Bandhan in some parts of Nepal and India, is a Hindu festival celebrated with fervor and devotion across Nepal. This festival typically falls in August, specifically on the full moon day of Shrawan, as per the Hindu lunar calendar. The central rite of Janai Purnima involves Hindu men, particularly from the Brahmin and Chhetri communities, renewing their Janai, which is a sacred thread worn diagonally across the torso and over the left shoulder. This thread is replaced or changed on this day following a purifying ritual. During this ceremony, the old Janai thread is discarded, and a new one is donned while reciting specific prayers and mantras. This act symbolizes the renewal of vows and spiritual purification. Janai Purnima is also associated with feasting, with a special dish called "Kwati" being prepared and enjoyed. Kwati, a nutritious soup prepared from a mixture of sprouted beans and lentils, is traditionally seasoned with a variety of spices and ingredients.
